About the Logo
Since starting this practice, folks have asked me about the logo design and the inspiration for it. The Hulsebus Counseling logo actually started as a tattoo that symbolized how I looked at therapy and my job as a therapist. With the help of a trusted tattoo artist, I was able to turn my vision for my career into a symbol I could grow with - and that would ultimately grow with me.

For the tattoo, I used the Greek letter Psi – for psychology – as the light in the lantern. I often use this metaphor in sessions, especially to define my role in the therapeutic alliance; I'm holding up a lamp as we walk together through part of your life. The lantern sheds light ahead and behind, opening up the possibility of understanding and insight into oneself.
The sword in the tattoo represents my role in helping clients navigate obstacles and challenges. This may involve fighting monsters on their behalf, teaching them how to fight for themselves, or supporting them as they advocate for their own needs. Self-awareness and advocacy are integral components of my approach to therapy.

To create the Hulsebus Counseling logo, I collaborated with a graphic artist to transform my original tattoo design. The sword was removed, and the color scheme was altered to incorporate my favorite color, green. Additionally, the Greek letter was replaced with the initials HC, for Hulsebus Counseling. My aspiration for this practice is to assist individuals in their journey through life, fostering self-awareness and a deeper understanding of where they’ve been and where they’re going as they choose a path through their life.
English professional football team Norwich City made this video for World Mental Health Day 2023:
Just because you carry it well, doesn't mean it isn't heavy. Not everything that weighs you down is yours to carry, and you don't have to carry it alone.
